Despite well-established Creative Practice higher degrees in programs throughout Australia, there are still many different interpretations about the role of the exegesis and its relationship to the creative work. This panel and open forum aims to canvas a range of views across different types of creative output to seek greater clarity for staff and students alike. Do we really even need an exegesis? Is it complementary to the creative work or supplementary?

Ponderings of Professor Kirsty Beilharz at the University of Technology Sydney's [DAB] Sense-Aware Lab. Along the path of research, creativity and design, we encounter fascinating sonic interactions and reflect on various problems from a sonic perspective. We have noticed the dearth of source material pertaining to interactive sonification, and more broadly contextualising the role of sound in interactive experiences, e.g. in product design, GUIs, feedback from devices, places, urban meanderings, graphing and information representation. We're interested in aesthetics, persuasiveness, physical and gestural interaction, mobile and pervasive device interaction, new expressive technologies, interfaces and environments in music, i.e. new interfaces for musical expression [NIME], creative content generation, polymedia in urban spaces, and sound in spaces, objects, products, art, design, wearable displays and data sonification. 'Sense-Aware' denotes making audible the invisible, revealing information in data, enabling interaction with complex data, such as eco-data and bio-data communication, unlocking awareness of sensed information, making available sensor information in an intelligent, responsive, relevant and interactive context, democratising data and leveraging social interaction with information.
